Returning to the Fold

So glad to have this game back! I took a break from L5R toward the end of AEG's run. Been looking forward to FFG's reintroduction for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed when I got to play at GenCon.

Here's looking forward to jumping back in with both feet!

Also, the box requires the unit to already be cavalry.

Wouldn't mind a Min-Hee playmat either.

Re: Ide Mutsuken

I run him in my dueling deck because of his 5 chi, but otherwise he's not up to snuff in standard military. He's also our token personality this arc that's on a horse but isn't cavalry.

Re: GenCon Dinner 2014

Should hopefully be able to make it this year. Tavern on South or the Ram both sound fine by me. Won't be able to play in the event (I'll be working), but I can join y'all for dinner at least.

Well done! Always glad to see a win for Unicorn.

Curious to see that you don't run Okura is Released. Did you find it unnecessary?

Hm, not bad ideas. Tested Blade is interesting. Moshi Sasako is a thought but she isn't cav and is really expensive. I like the Touch of Death idea, though. Might drop in a couple of those.

Re: Unicorn Uniques

Yeah, I like the model of unique uncommons better. The clan-aligned unique rares were almost never worth anything in trade, so it was always disappointing to pull one that wasn't yours. At uncommon, it's less of a problem.

Re: Unicorn Dueling (4-3 at Columbia Kotei) - Input Welcome

Yeah I think we did talk briefly. Tselu xp2 is only good late game, of course, but he makes my people basically immune to ranged attacks, which is helpful. And the 5 chi is a plus. Pretty sure I'm going to roll 2 Come One at a Time mostly for defense, but that's a good point about the potential for ...

Re: Unicorn Dueling (4-3 at Columbia Kotei) - Input Welcome

Yeah the lack of kill actions was a problem. If I add one more Taruko and Tomiko, that brings me to 8 shugenja (including Wattu in a pinch). I could justify 3-4 spells off that, I think. Not sold on adding Tomiko though - good stats but her action doesn't really do much for me, as I rarely get rings...

Re: Unicorn Dueling (4-3 at Columbia Kotei) - Input Welcome

I'm not sold that I need 3x Come One at a Time. The plan is to be on the offensive, but it's nice to have when I do defend. Possibly dropping in an Imperial Explorer Dojo to recur it. Eternal Chase is a consideration - it might replace Iaijutsu Dojo, but the honor meta plus the higher FV are keeping...

Unicorn Dueling (4-3 at Columbia Kotei) - Input Welcome

I ran this deck at the Columbia Kotei, ending up with a positive record. It was fairly untested, and I believe with the right changes it could make the cut. Thought I'd post it up here to get your thoughts about how to improve it. Looking for post-TCS suggestions not involving Aranai Sensei. We've a...

Yeah the -1 honor is what's bothering me too. Our cavalry options take a significant hit with that in play.

Congrats! Had a chance to see a little of your final games. Nicely played!

The kotei was a blast with so many people there. Since I couldn't win it, I'm glad you took it home for us.

As a UNC alum, I have to take issue with that one.
